Marty,

Thanks for the heads-up! Cleve Backster remains as kooky as ever. Those who missed George Noory's interview with the Dr. Doolittle of the plant world (and founder of the CIA's polygraph program) will find streaming audio of similar interviews with Cleve Backster linked here:

Cleve Backster is on Coast 2 coast AM* right now discussing plants and polygraphs. Polygraphs in the next hour. There should be some choice quotes. One I've heard already is that Cleve thinks plants may be better than a standard polygraph at deception detection. Nice to see some real progress in the field.

;)

*widely syndicated show that specializes in alien abductions, crop circles, ghosts, and other things useful for scary campfire stories. A most appropriate forum for one of the leaders of "modern" polygraphy.

Bill,

Barry Lynn, himself an ordained minister, is the executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

isnt that the same Barry Lynn of Separation of Church and state at all costs? just curious.

I corresponded to both Dr Honts and Dr Richardson during my polygrpah ordeal and read a lot of the research Dr honts quoted. One point that wasnt made as the fact that it is plausible to assume a much less risk of a false positive in a lab study because the relevant question poses no real threat to the "innocent" since the crime is a mock crime. In real life, the innocent have a lot to fear from the relevant question because failing it means increased suspicion, loss of job opportunity and other very real consrquences that fly inthe face of the CQT methodology.

also, William Iacono, a colleague of Dr Honts did a prison study where they were able to convince the inmates that innocent or not of a mock crime, a group of inmates would be denied some reward if anyone in the group failed the test and the results would be communicated to the group. The very real threat of blowing the test for you team and facing retribution created a more realistic scenario for a lab study. The false positive rate in that study was somewhere around 40% if memory serves me right.

I could go on and on all day about these studies but enough for now....

Critique:

It was a great listen and Drew was the center of the conversation. The PHD from Idaho only managed to get a few words in edgewise. George made his point and by the end of the show, the host was definately moving to the antipolygraph camp.  Great show !!!

Regards  ....
