The polygraph exam is a ruse. It is a ploy designed to get examinees to make damaging admissions and statements that the background investigators and adjudicators could not have known about otherwise. The deceptive scheme is that polygraph examiners try to help you succeed by giving you "another chance" by sharing whatever is causing the physiological reactions on the chart. They want you to get off your chest or get out whatever shameful and embarrassing conduct you committed in your private life so that they don't cause physiological reactions the next time you take the test. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS TRICK! The whole point is that they are eliciting disqualifying admissions and more information for them to question you about. Do not even make minor admissions. DENY! DENY! DENY! Do not share with them any information about your private life or anything that you are ashamed of sharing with anyone in your personal life. Keep it to yourself. Once you give them more and more rope, they will hang you with it and try to coerce you into false confessions. They will try to build rapport with you and earn your trust. Do not give it to them. They are not your friends. Their job is to make sure you do not get a clearance.
