During the current pandemic, security and privacy issues with the suddenly popular conferencing application Zoom have been in the news.

It's worth noting that there is a free and open source alternative available that prioritizes security and privacy: Jitsi Meet.

Jitsi Meet has the advantage that users need not install any software. Just go to the Jitsi Meet's public server, open a conference, and send the conference link to participants:

Alternatively, you can create your own Jitsi Meet server. Instructions are available in this video tutorial.

While only a web browser is required to use Jitsi Meet, there are also free mobile apps for iOS and Android available.
