Dear IntelHopeful,

The agencies are working with colleges across the nationd in creating special courses for intelligence and counter-terrorism.  The agencies are also very confused with what to do with employees after they get them through these courses.

Your "dream position" as a Special Agent is a noble one but many who have obtained these jobs have returned to their previous law enforcement jobs in frustration after less then a year on the job.

Your best bet would be to talk to former special agents.

I am seeking advice on the appropriate steps that someone in my position should take if working towards a position with a federal agency in the areas of intelligence and counter-terrorism.  I just started Graduate school to work on a Master's in Criminal Justice.  I am also completing an internship with a federal law enforcement agency.  My dream position would be that of a Special Agent, however I simply seek to make a difference for my country.  I want to be involved both intellectually, and analytically in the fields of Intelligence and Counter-terrorism.  I want every decision from this day forward to positively impact my career aspirations, no matter what.  If anyone can provide guidance, or advice, it would very much appreciated.  Thanks to all.
