- Dec 20, 2005, 05:23 PMThe comparison questions are CONTROL questions? Am I reading this right? And should I treat these as such with causing a larger reaction over the relevant questions. I was planning on using CM's.. If you could get back to me on this that would be great George.

In addition, see the "control" questions listed in DoDPI's Law Enforcement Pre-Employment Test examiner's guide and the message thread, LAPD Polygraph Questions Disclosed.
As for how to distinguish "control" questions from relevant ones, I suggest you carefully re-read Chapters 3 & 4 if TLBTLD. I don't know how to explain it any more clearly than we already have.
Irrelevant questions are not "control" questions and one should not augment reactions to them. In fact, one counter-countermeasure used by some polygraphers is to describe the irrelevant questions as "control" questions during the pre-test interview, in the hope of misleading the examinee. If the examinee reacts strongly to the irrelevant questions, countermeasure use is inferred.
As we make clear at p. 150 of the 4th edition of TLBTLD, augmenting one's reaction to the number or card one actually picked during the stim test is advisable if one chooses to employ countermeasures.

I am looking to get into LE. I am at the last hiring stage the agency for which I am applying told me that if I can pass the Poly they will hire me. I have read the free download and I wanted a more precise idea of what the CONTROL questions are going to be on a POLICE hire polygraph test? If you could give me some examples that would be greatly appreciated. I guess I need to know what questions to look out for during my PRE-TEST can you please list some example CONTROL questions that will be on my test? How will I know its a CONTROl question I know that from reading the book if the question is ambigious its a control question? I need examples though for a POLICE pre-employment poly test? And are you supposed to give a strong reaction to irrelevant questions I know they are contol questions but I heard they are not counted?One last question during the stim test are you supposed to show a reaction?
