I've passed everything else and this is the only thing that has the potential to keep me back.  Will it?

State Police Applicant,

There are many variables to your question. A little more background to clarify your situation would be a good start.

You should also download "The Lie Behind The Lie Detector" from this site(it's free). It will answer many of your questions and get you educated on what has happened to you. Also check some of the posts
on this site to see how others have overcome similiar situations

If your background investigator hasn't contacted you, contact him and ask for a status report.

Good Luck

Here's a little more info:

I took my first poly a few months ago and the examiner said that he was having trouble reading my charts because my breathing was erratic (not intentional).  I read 'The Lie Behind the Polygraph' and knew what to expect...I think those pneumograph tubes made me hyperconscious of my breathing.  I never knew the results were inconclusive, I only heard that I had passed.

Now, while waiting for the final call to hear that I'm hired, I instead get a call to come for another poly ASAP.  I do, and this time, I hear that the results were inconclusive and that this time the test will be a bit different.  I go through a different set of questions, but with the same result; they can't score my chart.  There was only scant mention of an area that they wanted me to 'clarify', but no real push.

Any quesses as to what the phone call in a few days will be?  You're hired or we're sorry?

"George..." Or should I say "Chief Gates?" How about "Joe Friday?"  You know as well as I do that someone who is completely truthful with the examiner is at maximum risk for failing this fraudulent "test."

Speaking of being truthful, try picking one name.  If you really want to be truthful, gather up the courage to use your own.

Misleading and negative comments like the above and "I think your next step should be to unpack your suitcase" do little to enhance the discussions on this board.  Instead of spending your time thinking up these one-liners, perhaps you, as a polygraph examiner, can explain why our State Police applicant should place any faith in the truth when your flawed test has never been shown to discern truth from deception with better than chance accuracy under field conditions.

While you’re at it, perhaps you can explain how polygraph examiners without security clearances (like state police polygraphers) detect polygraph countermeasures?  After all, our applicant may be employing them next time to assure himself of a truthful result (as opposed to placing his faith in this flawed "test").

I eagerly await your reply.

In what way(s) was the second polygraph "test" different from the first?

"George" you sound like a proud member of the AAPP... Always promote the "polygraph doctrine", whether it ruins lives or not, eh George? Shocked
