The Chinese English-language newspaper People's Daily reported in February 2001 about a new device called the "PG7 multi-variable lie detector" that has been approved for use in criminal investigations in China. It monitors blood pressure, pulse, respiration, pupil movement, and brain waves:

这 个人 命 名 木 质 认 为 大 家 能 读 中 文。 他 错 误。

Pinyin:  "Zhei ge ren ming ming ben zhi ren wei da jia neng du zhong wen.  Ta cuo wu."

Pronounciation:  "jay geh ren ming ming behn jer rehn way dah jiah neng doo joong wehn.  Tah tswo woo."

Translation:  "This person essentially thinks everyone can read chinese.  He is mistaken."

A very scary proposition in a country where those found guilty of corruption are often executed by a pistol shot to the head.
