Pre-interview vs post-interview admissions

When taking a polygraph is it better to make admissions during the pre-interview or post-interview? Now, keep in mind I am not talking about any major admissions but ones to questions such as "have you ever stolen anything from an employer." Should the examinee answer this question in the pre-interview by stating "well yeah I have taken pens and such," or during the post interview? Which would make an examiner assume you are telling the truth?
