Filing for an appeal from a Poly Fail a few years old. Should I bother?

I failed a SA Poly almost 4 years ago due to a ridiculous reason.  Even though it was so long ago, I haven't been able to fully move on.  Being an SA had been my dream for as long as I can remember, and I feel like the only way I can get closure with this is if I try everything I can.

I have read numerous posts on this forum stating that it is virtually impossible to have a successful appeal.  Are there any negatives to trying? Also, I heard from someone that he had known a person who failed the first poly, but had applied again and successfully succeeded. Are there truly zero instances of successful appeals as people here say? How would we know if there were any?

I tried contacting my original recruiter a few months ago via e-mail but no response (definitely still works there though).  What steps should I take to ensure that I get this appeal formally in the system?  Any recommendations as to how I should approach it?  Any help is hugely appreciated.

*An additional note to my original fail: I have admitted to using marijuana at a young age.

I would be interested in knowing this also.  My son failed the question about committing a crime, but he never has.  I wonder if they fail many people somehow to see what people do under pressure?  I would like him to appeal it, but don't know if there is a process for that.
