Disapointed in the Polygraph - The people I grew up trusting Failed me.

Recently I took 3 polygraph tests for a municipal police department in Southern California. I was born and raised in a law enforcement family so I fully trusted the people who have been hired by my peers to screen applicants. I was offered a "rare and lucky chance" to get 3 screenings in the polygraph. I had read the countermeasures book George offers, but I was so positive in my answers and relaxed I figured to not even bother with it. I was in a near paralytic state taking my test. I am extremely sure of my answers and I didn't flinch or go back on any of my answers. I followed the directions correctly listed in my background packet and listed all information accurately and truthfully to the best of my knowledge so I had nothing to worry about. All of my investigators were friendly and professional so there was no misconduct on their behalf. I was courteous and professional as well and I did not step on their toes about their profession.

I was severely disappointed to see a girl dressed like a slob with food stains on her shirt fly through her polygraph and a man who had an anxiety attack in the waiting room pass easily as well. I was labeled a "serious criminal offender" and was told my fate is in the hands of the personnel department. My background is outstanding and I've received several conditional job offers from other agencies at even my pre-background interview. Now I am slightly concerned this poly will hinder my progress with other places.

This agency should feel guilty and embarrassed for wasting hundreds tax payers dollars on 2 extra examinations. A detective with an older and proven invention called the telephone could sort out whether I'm a felonious criminal in an hour of phone calls they have to make anyway. Is there any agency out there that will not fail applicants based on their poly results but instead use them to investigate key areas instead? That makes the most sense to me if they're going to rely on it at all. I am totally confident in myself and I know if there's anyone out there who is slightly reasonable they will see the same in me and give me the benefit of the doubt.

Absolutely embarrassing on their behalf.

Don't second guess yourself. They're masters at making you believe no one but them. Don't fall for it, if you're sure of yourself stick to it.
