my ex went in for one about someone breaking my daughters leg. he failed the question that he did it accidently but made a excuse for it and said the examiner changed the results. can they do this? are they just telling him what he wants to hear?

Brittany,

Polygraphy has no scientific basis: it's is all about interrogation. It's standard procedure for polygraphers to ask examinees why they may have reacted to any relevant questions during a polygraph interrogation. And yes, the polygrapher may change the results based on information provided by the examinee. And if your ex is the one who paid for this "test," then the polygrapher may have had a motivation to return the hoped-for result.

But in any event, polygraph results are evidence of nothing and are not to be relied upon.

no one paid for the test. we are in a investigation and was sent for one. he failed a relevant question and said a incident the night before(which never happened) made him nervous.
