Polygraph?

Hello, I have sold small amounts of marijuana about 10 years ago, as well as smoked it many times.  I have never been in any trouble though.....with exception of 2 speeding tickets.  I know distribute of pot is a disqualifier for any police agency.  I have a strategy of mentally convincing myself it has never happened.  Does anyone think this will work?  I have 6 honorable years of military service as well as a BS in criminal justice.  Thanks!

This will always be on your mind while taking the polygraph.  You need to employ countermeasures.  Convincing yourself will not be enough.

SSgtUSAF,
Im not sure what police agency you are intrested in applying for. Most agencies dont care about selling or using small amounts of marijuana 10 years ago. What all agencies care about is the TRUTH. Dont lie. you dont need to confess every little thing you ever did, just answer the questions asked honestly. Agencies are not looking for perfect people they are looking for people that are honest, trustworthy, and stable.
Think about it, what if your on the beat and you pull someone over, you find 50,000$ in cash (drug money) no one is around to know about the money its just you and the money. they need to trust that your going to do the right thing in that situation. if your willing to lie about selling a little pot 10  years ago how can they trust that your going to do the right thing. Or a more common scenario, what if you get a domestic violence call you rush over there to find both partys mad at you. You lose your temper. Your sargent asks you for your statement. the agencey needs to know that your the type of person that will tell the truth even if it means you would end up in a disciplinary action.
Do not lie, its not going to help you get the job. your going to look like a better candidate if you can tell them the truth about selling a little pot 10 years ago.
