I work not for the jail but a program that I take out male inmates  daily, they work on a work program.Sometimes they cut weeds sometimes the pick up litter beside the road. They do different things in the county. The other day while I was in a store it was reported that one of them talked to someone in the parking lot and got some pills from them. After this was reported they durg tested all of them no one tested dirty. But after a search of there cells and lockers. they found many things that they shouldnt have, like cell phones, phone cards, food, hair color. I had only took these inmates out for three days but everything was being blamed on me. I was told I was not trusted any more and they didnt know if I would be able to take them out anymore. This is my job without taken out inmates I had no job so I ask was there any way for me to prove I did none of these things. I was told they didnt know so I not knowing anything about a polygraph ask to take one. After reading that someone telling the truth could fail I am not sure what to do now. I am afarid if I try to back out they may think I am lying...... I brought them proof that the phones were got before I even took them out....So please tell me what do I do??? I was told that no one that works for this county has ever took a polygraph  by someone that has worked for them for 18 years.

countrygirl,

Your fears are well founded: it is quite common for truthful persons to wrongly fail polygraph tests. If I were in your place, I would not submit to any lie detector test. To explain the reversal of position, I would mention that I had learned that such "tests" have no scientific basis and are inherently biased against the truthful.

DO NOT TAKE THE POLYGRAPH TEST.  Tell them instead, that they should interview the inmates as to when/where they got the items, and then submit them to a polygraph.

"Although the degree of reliability of polygraph evidence may depend upon a variety of identifiable factors, there is simply no way to know in a particular case whether a polygraph examiner's Conclusion is accurate, because certain doubts and uncertainties plague even the best polygraph exams."  (Justice Clarence Thomas writing in United States v. Scheffer, 523 U.S. 303, 118 S.Ct. 1261, 140 L.Ed.2d 413, 1998.)
