Need to take the poly graph.

Mark & QuoteQuote Print Post
Hey there, I need to take the polygraph and im really nervous about doing it. I am a sex offender, and this is my first time at a polygraph.

I was just wondering if anyone here could give me a walkthrough of what happens, like what some of the polygraphers are like. What questions do they ask. What is this post poly interrogation that I keep hearing about that im obligated to stay in. How long does this last, and is there anything that they might try to do just to screw me over from what I heard from some of my therapy assosciates.

Really detailed questions would be helpful. As would detail in their attitude be. I would just like to know what kind of interrogation to expect. Im someone who gets rattled easily, and from what I heard I dont want to fail the polygraph just because im scared because the polygrapher was being verbally abusive towards me.

What?  Your first polygraph - yet in another sentence you state ‘I am scared because the polygrapher WAS being verbally abusive towards me’.

What was your offense and maybe we can help you with those questions.  However, first check your probation/parole stipulations and see if you are prohibited from being on the internet or prohibited from entering chat rooms!

BTW, your therapy associates (lol-never quite heard of it that way) are also CRIMINAL.  I am sure they are telling you exactly what they want to tell you - which could be far from the truth.

Go to the polygraph and tell the truth! AND always be open and honest to your PO and therapist.  Report ALL of your victims, the behaviors you have participated in, and all of your violations (like using the internet).      What would your PO do if they found out you were on the ‘anti- polygraph’ site?

BTW, polygraph examiners are not out to ‘screw you over’.  Start thinking about the victim rather than taking the victim stance. Angry

You mean the polygraph your so fond of, that your on here taking a victim stance because these people with different opinions are actually attacking your misinformed ideas?

Also, why would they be telling me something just to scare me? If I screw up it reflects on us as a whole? That just means more severe laws and more money we have to shell out. Yea I think that was just a BS statement.

Last thing is, im not interested in counter measures or your verbal abuse accusing me of something I didn't even ask for.

I want to know exactly what type of people and interrogation im going up against who will call me a liar before I have stated anything (like your doing right now) before I have told the truth (which I cant prove wether is real or not unless you just kept me under a camera). Again your just proving my point as to why I want to know what type of people yall are when you jump to conclusions and would already like to fail me because im asking what to expect.

Before what?  In a completely different thread?  I copied your message. Are we expected to review the entire web site to answer your questions?  You have made 2 entries….hello?  oh, now 3.

Did I call you a Liar? No.  Did I ask you to check your probation/parole stipulations? Yes.  Did I tell you to tell the truth to the examiner, PO and therapist? Yes.   Did I tell you to start thinking about the victim(s) rather than taking the victim stance? You bet I did.

You state ‘I am not interested in counter measures…’   Did I accuse you of being here to learn counter measures? No.  However, with your mention of them I guess I don’t have to ask that question.

Now, onto why your therapy associates would lie to you????hum….probably because they have lied on a polygraph and got caught and they don’t want to own up to the ‘associates’ that they were in denial.  I have seen this happen time and time again over the past  20 years.

BTW, I am not a victim because there are different opinions other than mine.  We will let the other readers decide on your stance.  Again, check your probation/parole stipulations.  Oh, yeah, you forgot to mention what you were charged with?  How old was your victim(s)?

You sat there and ignored a part of the sentence which clearly stats why I was asking those things. And you sat there taking one little part in the first sentence and took another part from the other sentence, disregarding the first part of the last sentence. In a effort to accuse me of being deceptive. So obviously you think I am trying to undermine the system otherwise you wouldn't have responded in the first place. And yes I can be on the internet it is not against my probation. As well as being on forums to discuss things with adults. My PO only has a problem with things where kids are said to form up such as yahoo, aim, etc.

Again did you not read that part?

Quote:
Did I accuse you of being here to learn counter measures? No

When you ignore one thing but highlight another without bother reading the other part is yes an accusation as to why im here. Either that, or im more afraid now because polygraphers just completely skip over what things that are written which does determine the future of the people in which their supposed to take a non biased stance against, and look into every detail of what that person is saying or doing and all the info they have in front of them. Both of which you look like you have failed to do.

Oh yea let me tell you, this guy was just spouting off in group after doing a 12 years sentence and has been on parole now for about 3 years. Has completed most of his treatment, and is attending group on a monthly basis now. Is just lying to me because hes in denial. I can just see how he just wants to go back to prison because he hates his freedom so much.  Roll Eyes There was only one guy who I talked to who said probation intentionally screwed him over and all he ever did was minimize his statements, so yea im going to believe someone who has been nothing but vague about the situation. Thats what every criminal and probationer who is trying to change are just going to get sucked into.

Notice, I have to deal with these people to Taylor, ever heard of it takes one to know one? I can smell bull*&% coming from a mile away.

I dont really care what others opinions about me are, because if I was in there shoes I would think the worst about them too, and I dont mind being labeled what I am because I made a terrible choice, and worst off im not the only person this has affected. But fact is, I have heard that it is up more to the polygrapher then the machine as to decide who is lying. And now from reading on here I just dont want to be a flip of a coin type person where they decide wether you pass or fail the moment you walk through the door by deciding wether they like you or not.

And for that last part. Thank you again for proving my point that polygraphers are just out to get you. I cant think of one reason why you would ask that question other then 2 reasons.

One you would like to bash me for what I did.

And two, you would like to desperatly track me down and then call my county and PO to tell them I am intentionally trying to undermine and screw the system. Which im not here asking for counter-measures (which you obviously think I am), just wanting to know what is actually going to happen. From your (over the internet) interrogation already here to try and find out who I am so you can say im trying to break probation. This just strengthen's my thoughts more on that I need to know what type of interrogation you guys like to do. I have heard that some are nice, but most others will neysay you until they get a confession out. And then cost them more stress and money to redo it because of the tiniest little reading of inconclussive reading.

Thanks again for giving me a better idea of what you people are like. And please when you go in tommorow dont take it out on the guy who might be telling the truth, your just destroying his future if you intentionally fail him because you think hes guilty.

Ahh so you are saying im trying to do something wrong here? This just means your biased against anyone who ever questions your methods, and automaticlly assume their being deceptive.

Im on the internet, so you have already assumed im lying to you. I ask a question about what to expect, which you people really explain what questions are going to be asked. So if all im asking is what questions and what type of people im dealing with what reason do you derive from that, that im automaticlly starting BS to save my $%^?

And before you say anything, your right I did say that first. But you implied it.

Why are you already trying to burn me at the stake when I asked simple questions, not how to beat it. Just what to expect.

I already have said I get rattled easily, if your experienced im sure you will have no trouble sorting through any crap I might be shelling out if im lying. So why cant you just asnwer my quesiton? OTher then just being what everyone on here has claimed you people do. Is try to screw us over. You just keep reinforcing my opinion on the matter, that yall go on witch hunts as soon as you step into that office. And if you detect any foul play with counter measures which you guys claim to be able to detect. Can nail us to the wall. If you can do that, then you should have no quarrel answering my simple questions.

Hi Forgo. Interesting username.
You ask a pretty strange series of questions-----good questions----but strange. 1st, I would imagine you have access to your therapy mates to get a feel for the types of questions that your local authorities and therapist will be interested in being asked of you. Your last comment regarding stating that countermeasures cannot be detected implies that you have read the online screed on polygraph, so your question regarding wanting a "walk-through" of the polygraph test process and questions seems a little redundant.
Once more, for the first time in polygraph history--both pro-polygraph and anti-polygraph forum posts, you ask what to expect in the post test. Well, that all depends on how things go in the pre-test, doesn't it? Peer-reviewed studies show that far more often than not, if you lie, you will fail the test, and the examiner will send a great deal many questions your way. If you tell the truth, than peer-reviewed studies show that there is a great chance that you will pass. Peer reviewed studies show that if you attempt countermeasures, regardless if you are lying on the relevant questions or not, you will fail that test.
I can say with experience that the most lied about issues for supervised sex offenders is alcohol use (being a sex offender is depressing), porn use (being a sex offender can be lonesome), and contact with children (families can often be very unsupportive and even incredulous to your no-child stips.) I would bet a buffalo nickel that you will be asked those questions, and probably about 30 or 40 other target areas.
A word of warning, your probation officer, local cops, and neighbors/informants know more about your activities than you might think. Tell the truth, establish a new history of trust, and keep it real.

If you want to take away the power of the polygraph, pick up the phone and call your probation officer and disclose everything that might be sketchy. Then take the test with a clean mind, and of course the post test will be virtually non-existent. My 2 cents.

p.s. Please forgive D. Taylor's and my akwardness, as your post certainly comes off as being that of a manipulator variety of probationer, who is asking what to expect after he lies and fails his test----a test for which you claim to not know what questions are to be asked (huh?). It's a little suspicious man, that's all. Also, some tests have questions like "Since you started probation, have you touched the sexual parts of anyone under the age of 18.?" So, when you post with suspicious questions about being interrogated in post tests, we don't know if perhaps the above question could be the sticking point for your upcoming test, now do we? Good luck.

I dont mind people being suspicious.

I cant sit here and prove to you that I am telling the truth.

So I dont mind people questioning me.

What I do mind though, is when people who claim that these individuals are not out to get you and then sit there before neysaying everything you ask and assume that your inentionally trying to screw over the system when asking simple questions, that should not have any effect on the outcome of the test if their conifident that the applicant will fail it, if they lie wether or not they use counter measures.

Just asking how the test goes, im just asking what happens first. Do you sit in a lobby area for like an hour and the polygrapher comes out to greet you. Does he automaticlly say if your hiding anything we will find it. Or is he sincere or things of that nature.

And when they start the polygraph do they let you take breaks? How many questions do they ask, how long can I expect to be there on average. General things like that, and the post poly interrogation that I have heard mentioned in groups alot.

I dont ask this stuff in group for fear of being interrogated further of why are you asking these questions do you have something to hide, normal probationers dont ask these questions, or something like that.

Probation is strict and we are told to treat it like we're in jail. I do not want to be barraged with questions and scolding, like the typical answer which I would have suspected from polygraphers on here or from my therapists or PO. Like Taylor first responded with.

Im guessing your a polygrapher as well right?

That was genuinely difficult to understand.

Most examiners that administer the clinical variety of polygraph are quite affiable, despit the oft times negativism of the work. If you get an examiner that is immediately unfriendly, than confront him politely about his demeanor. But, do not mistake a lack of chumminess or expression for being unfriendly, the examiner just may be a boring, unexpressive  type of person.

No one could know what kind of logistics or surroundings you will encounter when you go to your test. Don't expect to be accused of anything, jeez, you're not applying for the Secret Service here.

You sound young----young people often feel uneasy about asking questions. In my neck of the woods, group members ask questions and that's fine.

Im not asking what type of tactics you would use really just what general questions, what is the post poly interrogation, how many questions do yall ask. How long does this take. Are there any surprises that happen? Are there more $^%hole polygraphers then there are easy going people.

That sort of stuff.

Why don't you just relax and take the test, (assuming you have nothing to hide).  Be a nice guy to the polygrapher, treat them with respect and dignity, and they will likely respond in kind.   I am not a polygrapher, but I am a cop, and even if I don't like what a suspect did, I  know from personal experience a suspect who treats the police with respect usually gets it in return, guilty or not.

Report back with the details, (if you can without violating conditions of release).

"Although the degree of reliability of polygraph evidence may depend upon a variety of identifiable factors, there is simply no way to know in a particular case whether a polygraph examiner's Conclusion is accurate, because certain doubts and uncertainties plague even the best polygraph exams."  (Justice Clarence Thomas writing in United States v. Scheffer, 523 U.S. 303, 118 S.Ct. 1261, 140 L.Ed.2d 413, 1998.)

Its not difficult to lose patience and vent anger on SO's.
You probably deserve a fair measure of abuse, just so's you know what it feels like to be on the receiving end. Dont look for pity because
you know that you should DI on your test. If i was testing you I would DI you simply to get you off the streets. Call me picky.

Give me a break. Magnum, you are no polygraph examiner. You are a troll, as no examiner would say as much. Readers, this is not an actual polygraph examiner, this is an attempt by an antipolygraph activist to make examiners appear as though they have the power or inclination to fail an examinee based on their personal disdain for an examinee.
