Failed Poly!!!

I just failed a question during a recent polygraph that I took. I have been told that I have to take a specific poly in order to continue in the hiring process. My prescreen poly was about 18 questions and I have been told that they are only going to ask me the one question that I failed.
This whole thing is very frustrating to me because I did not lie and I am being accussed of lying!! Now, I am naturally more nervous because if I do not pass I will be eliminated from the hiring process.
Will a specific poly have a control question? Are they really only going to ask me the one question that I failed.. Should I try to use countermeasures in order to help me pass? Obviously being honest does not work.
Any advice is greatly appreciated

I sure hope the 18 questions were broke down in to several tests.  If you showed reaction to a particular question just think about anything in your life that could have impacted the question.  Once I tested a lady and she had a large reaction to illegal drugs.  She swore that she never used drugs and in fact her brother had died from an overdose.  As soon as she said that I knew what was impacting the test and did a specific exam and cleared up the issue.  She was hired.  It appears this is what they are doing with you.  However, if they were asking 18 questions, you needed a break.  Stop looking for ways to beat the polygraph as that will definitely ruin your chances.  Just think if there are any outside issues that could be impacting the question and talk candidly to the examiner.  Good luck.  Taylor

It seems like you are misunderstanding. They are probably asking for a second test because they are still unsure about the meaning or consistency of your reactions. That's different than accusing you of lying.

You are best off trying to steer clear of the crazy-making here. If you really want the job, then don't try CMs just to experiment with unproven ideas, or just to become fodder for the anti cause.

Just work with your examiner. You do your part. Let the examiner do their part. If you can think of anything that was interfering with your reactions, then talk about it and get it out of the way by telling them. Most things don't matter once they are disclosed. Its what they don't know that they will wonder most about.

Good luck.

You say you didn't lie, but in an earlier thread that you started under the screen name "truthhurts," and from which you have since deleted your posts, you admitted that you "lied about smoking pot over ten years ago."

While applicants are secretly expected to be less than truthful when answering the "control" questions, the question about your past drug use was a relevant one, and I think those seeking positions of public trust have an ethical duty to answer relevant questions truthfully.

AntiPolygraph.org makes information about polygraph countermeasures available in order to provide the truthful with options for protecting themselves against the serious risk of a false positive outcome. We are not interested in helping liars beat the system.
