Most police applicant screening formats are R and I (I and R) formats which contain no control questions. If by chance you do have a control question, ask the examiner "is that question a control question?" He/She will be impressed with your question---as any cop should investigate such things. I have never disqualified an examinee for mere knowledge or informed inquiry regarding test formats. Be polite though---your examiner will likely be a co-worker some day.
