There can be no definitive answer on this or any other question regarding what is required to "pass" a polygraph exam.

It would be reasonable to assume one would pass a polygraph exam simply by telling the truth.  Unfortunately that is just not true.  You may pass by telling the truth, or you may not.  In my own experience I failed 75% of my polygraph exams while telling the complete truth and not concealing or holding back any information.

I have taken the exam several times, and have been calm during 2 of them.  Neither was conclusive, so they made me come back.  I just drank an extra cup of coffee before the subsequent polygraphs  Grin

linguist87 / koban4max,

Drinking coffee prior to taking a polygraph exam is not a wise choice. The caffeine will increase your heart rate during the test, thus making it seem as though you are nervous about something... the polygraph examiner may suspect that you are less than forthright, and therefore deem you as deceptive, DI.

On the other hand, a lower and more relaxed heart rate would be more desirable. Practice controlling and maintaining your breathing rate to approximately 4-seconds per breath [in and out] with augmented responses to the control questions if the test is a CQT exam. I suggest that you download and read TLBTLD which is available here on this website for free..
