Twice inconclusive - auto fail?

Hi,

I took the FBI pre-employment polygraph twice. I was told it was inconclusive the first time and the second time I'm assuming it's inconclusive since the agent said "you have inconsistent responses to some questions;" whatever that means. He'll send the result to DC. I didn't bother to ask him what he meant. I'm assuming that's an automatic failure. What's the typical time line that I should hear the result? I don't think I want to waste more time with FBI but I'm wondering what other people's experiences are.

An inconclusive result is just that--inconclusive. It doesn't--or shouldn't--count against you in any way. I can't make you any promises, but if all the FBI can get from your polygraph is an inconclusive, then they'll have to rely on your background investigation and other assessments and qualifications. That could be a good thing, right?

To the best of my knowledge,  the FBI will not normally start any investigation until an applicant gets the green light from the polygraphs unit in headquarters.  Inconclusives do not count as a "green light."

Regards.
