So the whole polygraph begins as an interview of sorts with the polycrapist (purposeful misspelling) asks me the same questions that were asked for both the civil service test paper work and the initial board interview and the first group  candidate meeting with an investigator aka Sgt. so and so. From there the interview takes a turn for the worse as he begins to badger me about my sexual history and what the strangest sex that I have had is, how it was for the person involved how it was for me and so on and so forth.  Next on the topic list was " What kind of porn do you like, what sites do you go to?" " Do you like to go to those ones with the young girls in em?, oh, cmon you know you been there before everyones done it, cmon where do you go, what do you like " " Cmon they look like they are 21."  Other such questions came at me in the same interrogational and implicative manner throughout the examination ranging from driving history to  do you hit your girlfriend.  Correct me if I am wrong, but if I am to be poked and prodded like an animal and begged to tell them that I have done something horrendous, which I might add I did not nor have done, will not my galvanic skin response be negatively affected? Anyway, long term affect of my test is that I did not get in and the polygraphist believes that I am a druggie who is both lying about marijuana use, and crack use (an actual question about crack specifically is on the test...." have you told the truth about cocaine usage" ) and a child pornographer who had sex with a bunch of underage girls when in college that gets into fight at work and lies about his driving record. Oh yeah, I forgot for the record to say that I also has a red flag on MY FIRST NAME!.... But what should I expect? In the 8 foot by 8 foot cell... I mean white room that the polygraph is done in, Not only do you sist facing the wall 2 feet in front of you, but you are told to stare at the dot on the wall and close your eyes the entire time .... yes I said do both at the same time... make pretend there is a dot you are staring at at eye level while your eyes are closed facing the wall in the chair with wobbly arms.

You all wonder who passes? I will tell you. The catatonic have a 100 percent score, and the sociopathic have a 98 percent.

The reason for this ridiculous level of intense involvement for this Sheriffs Department's hiring process They think of themselves as a "hard department."

The long term effect of the process on me? I will never work for them. And, I got hired by the state 2 days ago. Hah to them. More money, benefits, insurance and vacation for me. Smiley

p.s. I am too tired to care about spelling or punctuation.

Freem40,

My congratulations on your state job. Its unfortunate that you had to come the the realizations that you did because of a polygraph. Welcome to the website and I hope you spread the word on your experience. I don't know if you downloaded the The Lie Behind the Lie Detector (TLBLD) from this website, but you would do well to read it and fully understand and correlate your experience to the book. And if you wanted to post the polygraphers name, do feel free. Quite a few have been posted here. Again welcome and you join the rest of us who believe in the removal of the polygraph from pre-employment actions.

Regards ...

No idea who it was, just that it was for Onondaga County Sheriff's Office. New York State.
