All Concerned,

I came on this article and it sadly points out that knowing how to use countermeasures in the wrong hands has bad consequences. Not sure which anti polygraph information this bad cop used but it was before Antipolygraph.org. It shows 2 things, one he beat the polygraph using countermeasures, two that he was finally taken out by good BI work and real police investigations.  More than enough ammo in this one for both sides of the polygraph issue.  My take is that had this guy been given the thorough BI neccessary, then he never would have become a cop at all. It also proves that the polygraph is unrealiable and dangerous.

To all I post both good and bad as I see it

EosJupiter,

The article doesn't make it clear on the basis of what evidence it is asserted that Seattle police officer John Powers learned how to beat the polygraph on the Internet. But it's certainly possible. You're right that Powers' information would have almost certainly come from a site other than AntiPolygraph.org, since this site only went on-line in September 2000.

The take home lesson for police administrators is that polygraph "testing" is unreliable to begin with and may be readily circumvented through the use of simple countermeasures that polygraphers cannot reliably detect.

George,

Lets see which of our friendly neighborhood polygraphers, chime in on this one. My guess is that it was Doug Williams' "How to sting the polygraph". But that is only a guess on my part. If anyone knows then please do enlighten us.
