Ok, here's my issue.  A few years ago when I was living in the North, a drug-dealer named Sammy was killed by a guy named Joe near my college.  I knew both of them as Joe had dated my best friend for many years.  The cops had an idea of who did it, but they didn't have proof.  One night me, my friend and Joe were hanging out, and he told me all the details of the murder.  Out of fear for my life, I never said anything.  Now, a few years later, I work for a compnay that makes military parts for the gov't.  A few weeks ago some stuff went missing and the gov't has been doing lie detector tests to anyone who had access to the stuff (which does include me).  I'm real scared that they are going to ask me some sort of generic control question that is going to "reference" the whole thing a few years ago.  I've been told that even if they did, what I say can't be used in reference to the past incident, but I'm scared they could let the police know and then they would want to question me (they never did in the past).  I'm real scared for me and my family - help!

I know, and you're right, but my whole family still lives in that city and Joe has a lot of friends who are as dirty as he is.  I could never, ever forgive myself if something happened to them that was my fault.  The cops say they'll protect you, but they can't always.  I also think that maybe having one less drug dealer on the streets is a good thing, but losing my family isn't.

I have worked in LE for a few years now and have really lost count of how many times I have had a "Green Light" placed on me by some gang banger or prison gang member.  At first I became very worried about these threats to a point where I began to question if this career was even worth it considering how easy it is to find out where someone lives.  Heck, I was even responsible for having my neighbor locked up for beating his wife on a few occasions.  Can you imagine how uncomfortable it was living next to this guy for the next few months was?  Did I worry about him doing something?  HELL YES!  Did he ever do anything? NO!


Almost a decade later I can tell you I have yet to see any of these threats seen through.  While I still take every threat seriously, I have learned that for the most part it is a bunch of hot air.  I can understand how difficult this decision may be for you and I can certainly understand the fear you have that harm may come to your family, however, for the most part I can tell you they are safe.   

You came on here asking for advice and you are probably going to get a lot of the same kind.   

All I can say is do the right thing and put this to rest.
