My house was broken into and everything we own was taken.  My fiance is a police officer.  At first I was hopefull because they take it very personal when an officer gets hit, and I thought they'd get our stuff back right away.  They gave the file to a cop in the serious crimes division.  Turns out that this guy has a history with my girlfriend.  He invited himself to her house when she first moved here, tried to sleep with her, and when she told him that she doesnt date other cops, he started rumors that he had slept with her anyways, and that she was a slut etc..  I have proof that he actually stalked her.  Upon getting the file, without any investigation, pointed the finger at me, and lauched a personal attack on me to make me out to be a criminal.  He told everyone I had set it up, and that he was going to prove it.  He interogated everyone that knew we were out of town, and told them things like "so tell me about the drugs they were growing in thier house", and "He already confessed that you did it, just tell me how you did it, when you did it, how much he paid you, etc. and I'll let you walk".  It was unreal.  He even called people I do business with and let them to believe I was involved in criminal activities and not to trust me.  I went down to the office and volunteered for a polygraph to clear my name.  The problem is, is that my girlfriend told me to do it, and that as soon as I passed that she was going to internal affairs and tell them about the investigation.  Turns out it went alot higher then she thought.  Their are people at the top of the food chain at the cop shop that believed the investigating officers accusations, and therefore, let him do things he wasn't supposed to do.  Now they are worried of getting exposed and its my belief that they are now doing a cover up.  The polygraph I took was 6 HOURS LONG!!  6 hours of interogation, sometimes two cops were interogating me at the same time.  I was totally truthful, cause my girlfriend made me beleive I could trust them.  I only wish that I had been better prepaired.  I wished I had read the stuff on this site, cause I never would have agreed to do it, had I known what would happen.  They told me I was being "not totally truthful" and then they accused me of manipulating the test results.  If I failed why would they bother telling me I cheated?  Can anyone explain that?  I asked them how I cheated, and they said I moved my legs.  I said it was a lie because the sensor on the seat would show that I moved my legs if that was true.  I asked them to show me the graph to show me when and where I moved my legs, but they wouldn't show me.   After hours and hours, they finally said "well....  we could be wrong.  so, we don't normally do this, but we'll send the charts to another expert that teaches at the school at headquarters to see what he thinks.  I don't beleive them for a second.  They're lying out their teeth.  Why would they send the charts 5000 miles away on the opposite side of the country to get a second opion if it was clear that I failed.  Why would they accuse me of cheating?  Makes no sense.  If that wasn't bad enough.  The next day they told my girlfriend that we are not allowed to co-habitate until the end of the investigation, and tried to convince her that I was a bad person, and that when they get to the bottom of it, she will be forced to make a decision as to dump me, or be fired.  Can anyone possibly comprehend this kind of bullshit?  Now apparently they're looking into how my brother bought his house, and how he came up with his down payment.  And asking my girlfriend who pays the rent on my house.  They just won't stop till they can have something to find me guilty of.  I can't take it anymore.  I live in a small town.  They've painted this picture of me that I'm involved with criminal activities, and I'm a threat to security, and because I grew up here, and know everyone in town, good, and bad, they're trying to find ways of associating me with known criminals in the community.  If I walked down the street and said Hi to some skid outside the 7/11, I'd be an associate.  ITS RIDICULOUS!!  these assholes are ruining my life, and I'm the victim.  WTF!?!?  I'm going crazy...   can anyone help or give me advice?

Hi bs,

Do those guys claim to have any evidence? Did they do their job at your house, fingerprints, etc? They can't tell your friend she has to leave the house! What agency does she work for anyway? What a crock.
Good luck

They did what seems was a 2 hour investigation before everything went crazy.  She works for the RCMP which is the federal police in canada.  They dusted for prints but I never heard about the results.  They claim it was me that set it up, because any "legit" thief would have stolen her uniforms, and the thiefs also took thier time and went through everything including underwear, and took anything and everything of value.  So because they took thier time, and because they didn't take her uniform, to them it means I did it, or the person that did it knows us, and knew that we would be away that night.  It happened New Years Eve.  The fact is that thier is ZERO evidence so far in this case.  They haven't found anything to come close to proving I was some how involved, and have absolutely no  leads.  Its a joke.  They're clueless.  Its a town of only 60 thousand.  Its hard to believe that they couldn't find them by now.  Someone has to know something.  Personally I don't even think they're looking.  I'm convinced its an internal cover up because of the bullshit investigation tactics they used.  I really don't know what to think at this point.  Its all fcuked up.

I am assuming that your story is factual.

If I were in you shoes, I would make haste to a
federal Lawyer and file a slander and harrassment lawsuit. Then I would contact the nearest FBI office and relate my story and see if I could get an investigation started. However, put on your brave suit because any LEO that would do this (and his agency that condones his actions) is not above puting out a hit on you to keep you from accomplishing your goal. Three or four years ago I remember reading, on a website, that a Portland, Or. policeman put out a hit job a guy. I have no way knowing if it was the truth or not.

When the lawsuit is delivered to them, it will bring them out hot against you or the investigation will stop or at least subside.

1) Since you are evidently the main suspect in a criminal investigation, I think it would be wise to get a lawyer to advise you and your fiancee regarding your legal rights. For instance, the RCMP's threat to make your fiancee choose between you and her job seems inappropriate and may well be illegal.

2) Because of the misconduct you allege extending to the top of your local RCMP detachment, you may wish to report this higher up the chain-of-command.

3) Another option is to go public. If what you allege is true, it may help to name and shame those responsible. Take your story to your local newspapers, television, and radio stations. Because the RCMP is implicated, this could very well become a story of interest across Canada and not just in your town. Public scrutiny may compel the RCMP to take disciplinary action against those involved.

Sorry. I didn't read your second post closely enough. Didn't realize you were in Canada.

UPDATE ON "INVESTIGATION"
Apparently the investigating officer has been taken off the case, and has been transfered to Ontario which is on the other side of the country from where I am.  Hmm...  how interesting.   My fiance was told that we are still not allowed to sleep in the same bed, but that we are allowed to talk to each other during the day, which will last until the investigation is over in 2 - 3 weeks.  They pulled my fiance into the office where all the brass guys were, and they told her all this bs, and said she was a stupid young girl for getting involved with me.  They painted this picture as if I was some criminal.  She asked for any evidence to back that accusation up, and they didn't have any.  They just said the whole thing smells funny.  I talked to all the lawyers in town, and while they seemed intrigued and sympathetic, none were willing to take the RCMP on in a civil litigation matter.  However, they did tell me that they would give me legal council.  Because the RCMP has informed my insurance company that "something doesn't feel right", there is a good chance I will not be able to get any of my posessions replaced, and even if they do, it will take months.  My only glimpse of hope in this matter is...  that the new investigating officer appears to be a very level headed neutral person, and seems to be unaffected by everyones quick judgement.  He's being very impartial, and reviewing everything in the case.  I can only hope that he finds the person(s) responsible, so that I'll have a better chance of clearing my name.  I'll keep you updated.  Thanks for the replies.

bstest, (I assume this is the polygraph you are referring to.)

Anyway, I am sorry to hear about your ordeal.  As far as the "brass" advising your girlfriend to not associate with you, my experience in this matter is that they are in fact allowed to tell her not to associate with you.  This is of course contingent that the Policies and Procedures of the RCMP, state to some effect that all its officers must maintain a certain standard of ethics and moral character.  That is if you have a criminal record, are in a gang, have arrests for drug possesion etc. then by associating with you she is portraying the department in a negative manner or failing to abide by accepted moral or ethical standards.

Ultimately, I think there is something you are leaving out or failing to disclose in this matter.  As far as this conspiracy case or huge cover up you are alluding to, I also find it hard to believe (this may of course simply be because as a supervisor I could never see myself covering up for unethical behavior of a subordinate).  Other fact is that for the most part while officers may work for the same department, they don't necessarily all like each other enough to put their careers on the line.  Either way it appears as if the new investigator may have a different opinion on this matter so it may turn out in your favor.

I just went through a similar process with the poly.  Same thing I was truthful with my responses to the relevant questions.  At the conclusion, the examiner told me there "was a problem" with my test.  He didn't outright say I faield but, that is what was implied.  Anyway, I too was accused of using counter measures.

In the end, I left the test not knowing what my results are.  I found out later through my boss that I supposedly 'failed' the test.  Although I question that  !!!!  I wondered exactly the same thing.  Why would you accuse something of using counter measures if they failed ?  If someone failed, there's no need to make any such accusations.  The results themselves should speak volumes.  The entire poly process is a farce.
