If you are considering employment as an FBI linguist, you will definitely want to read the U.S. Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General's report,  A Review of the FBI's Actions in Connection With Allegations Raised By Contract Linguist Sibel Edmonds:

http://www.usdoj.gov/oig/special/0501/final.pdf

This unclassified abridgment of the longer, classified report, provides a considerable amount of information about the work of FBI linguists. The work environment described in general, and the FBI's documented retaliation against Mrs. Edmonds, may not be what you are expecting from a law enforcement agency whose motto is "Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity." A more honest motto might be "Play Along to Get Along" or "Don't Rock the Boat."

For related reading, see Mrs. Edmonds' website:

I'm a contract linguist like Mrs. Edmonds and I read the OIG's report and the story in her website.
As stated in the OIG report, the investigation was probably unsatisfactory.  However, it also shows that she was making things up to disparage her supervisor and colleagues.  It is quite apparent that she was a very difficult employee.

I have worked at the Washington Field Offfice on TDY assignments many times.  The situation and condition of the office described in her website were simply not true.  I can only assume that she is doing this as a revenge for the her firing by the FBI.

I have enjoyed working as a CL with the FBI for almost 2 years and I strongly encourage anybody with the necessary language skills to apply.   Admittedly any large organization has its own bureaucracy and the FBI is no different.  Only you yourself can make it a sucess or failure!
