Although I previously addressed this question in another message thread, I will again respond in kind. Providing the candidate was equally qualified for both positions, support and special agent..

My personal opinion is that the better choice would be the special agent position. 

Why...

Better pay, better benefits, better retirement, better treatment, better positions, and better upward mobility, such as the potential to progress into supervisor and manager positions, GS/GM-14/15.

If I was a future candidate for employment with the FBI, and had completed a four-year or, six-year advanced college degree, and was under 37 years of age, I would not be easily satisfied with a support SSG position.

On the other hand, there may be some people that would be completely satisfied after completing an advanced college degree, and under 37 years of age, with a support position. It simply all depends on the individual's career ambitions. What motivates and drives one individual, may not necessarily motivate and drive another... Have you ever heard the old saying, "different strokes for different folks"?

Rather than asking everyone else on this board what they would do, and why they would do it, if presented with the same set of circumstances … you must first ask yourself…

1) What do you wish to achieve if employed by the FBI?
2) Where do you see yourself in five years from the present date?
3) Are you planning to augment, or, supplement your future retirement with a second career income?
4) Do you see yourself being promoted into a supervisor or manager of a division/department?
5) What makes you happy?

I can assure you, if it’s the SSG position you ultimately decide upon…

1) You will still be a support employee [SSG or other] five years from present date.
2) You will most likely have to seek additional employment to supplement your SSG retirement.
3) You will not excel to become a departmental supervisor or manager within an SSG/SOG.
4) Bottom line, as long as your happy with the decision you make, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, would do, or, why.

Do whatever it is whereby you would be most happy and content, regardless of the circumstances.

Stay away from the SSG. It's a mindless FBI dead end for those who don't get the agent's position or those desirous of federal welfare where you receive a decent paycheck for mindless work and no prospects of going anywhere..................
