hurry up and wait

Hi all,

I just wondered if there is anyone working for or in the hiring process for New Castle County Police in Delaware? I took my polygraph exam a week ago and am still awaiting the results. Anyone know how long it typically takes to hear word? I was also wondering about the overall weight of phase in the process. What I mean is do they evaluate your entire application process or do they judge strongly on the polygraph?

Thanks for any information.

If an agency is conducting pre-employment polygraph examinations, I suspect they will rely heavily on the results.  If they say they don't then maybe they should undergo a polygraph.  Why else would they administer them?  I don't know the policy on the particular agency you mentioned, however, it's not uncommon for the polygraph results to be incorporated into an overall package that goes to Human Resources.  If you passed they'll proceed on.  If you were inconclusive you probably would have been called by now for a re-test. Well in a desperate attempt to keep this post alive  Grin...

I called HR today to check up on my polygraph results for the PD I am in the runnings with and the lady told me that the next step for me was the BI and that I should sit tight and wait to be contacted by an investigator if I am selected. She said it could be at anytime but if I am not hired by May of 2004 to call them and reapply.  ??? Any insight as to what just happened? I am guessing it is good news but at the same time I am not sure what to make of the conversation. I guess that's the whole hurry up and wait game. Any opinions? Please feel free, I am open to any.  Undecided

Dear Drugsarebad,

The whole polygraph process is extremely time consuming.   After three polygraphs, I am gainfully employed in a law enforcement position in the Federal Government.   Test, inconclusive, test, definitively deceptive, test, non-deceptive,  background investigation, completely dependable,  on the job, no problem, take care of business.

The pre-screening polygraph is the roll of the dice.  I wish I had something more positive or definitive to state.  The process was frustrating and very impersonal.  Hang in there.

My experience has been to keep appealing and force their hand.  If you are right in your feelings, keep on their ass.

Regards.
