Scope of background investigation

I recently found out that I have to fill out a SF 85P and a Declaration for Federal Employment for two jobs:  FBI and Customs.  Each of these forms have questions relating to arrests and convictions that are restricted in scope by time (e.g., SF 85P 7 years).  I have two questions.

First, if nothing shows up in the investigation within the first seven years, will the investigator go beyond the seven years anyway just to make sure?   It seems to me that when you look up someone's background, it becomes difficult to stop looking at the computer when you go beyond a certain year.

Second, I received a DUI ten years ago (20 yo).  I received supervision and attended alcohol related classes (no conviction).  I have no prior or subsequent incidents.  Will this be a problem for the FBI or Customs?

GW,
As I pointed out in another post, our esteemed leader George W. Bush has a prior DUI, and look at the job they gave him. Why would they deny you the same consideration?

Orolan,

That President Bush has a drunk driving conviction tells us absolutely nothing about FBI hiring practices.
