what should I do ?

on the 9/11 i took a polygraph for the Henrico county police force/Virginia.  i was nervous because i did not know what to expect. anyway, i took the test. i thought everything went well .i told the investigator everything he wanted to know because i had nothing to hide.  the test was over and i was led to a room to  wait for a few minutes.  after about 10 mins he returned for me, took me back to the room. he said on two questions my readings were questionable. "have i ever used, transported, possessed drugs ? -the answer ofcourse is NO!-he grilled me for about 10 mins then said that the reading was inconclusive and he would "give me the benefit of the doubt"
the other question : Have i ever stolen anything from my work place like clothes or  money ? again the answer is NO!
he also said that there was a spike  and that he will have to get me for that one

i asked him what now, he said that they will do a background investigation
i said GOOD! because i know that anyone they talk to like  friends, teachers, bosses, anyone who knows me  knows  that i have never been involved in anything of the sort

I am so upset!!!  and wish that there was some thing i could do because i am not guilty. I feel so bad because i know that its not true. every time i think that i might not get the job that i have wanted my entire life  i  get so depressed. i feel accused of things i have avoided my entire life.  Cry Angry

nightowl,

Based on your account, it appears that you have not at this point been disqualified on account of your polygraph results (since your polygrapher states that a background investigation will be forthcoming).

Nonetheless, it might be appropriate for you to send (by certified, return-receipt mail) a letter to the officer in charge of recruitment contesting the polygrapher's opinion that you were untruthful. For tips on how to proceed, see Chapter 5 of The Lie Behind the Lie Detector.
