Pregnant and Denied,
You are having a hard time finding reliable research on polygraphs and pregnancy because to my knowledge, nothing of the sort has been published. The American Medical Associaiton was one of many groups that issued position statements against polygraphy when the Employee Polygraph Protection Act (legislation that outlawed polygraphy in the US private sector) was under consideration. It goes without saying that physicians groups are not going to waste time conducting a study of the safety of a test on pregnant women when the test is an invalid procedure when used on anyone. Quote:
The FBI does not have a scientific/rational/reasonable answer as to why polygraphs are used in the hiring process on those who are not pregnant. After all, the National Academy of Sciences concluded that "[polygraph testing's] accuracy in distinguishing actual or potential security violators from innocent test takers is insufficient to justify reliance on its use in employee security screening in federal agencies.” Surely you don’t expect the FBI to provide a scientific/rational/reasonable answer as to why polygraphs are not be used on expectant mothers. Although it is far from a scientific/rational/reasonable answer, the reason why the FBI is refusing to polygraph you is that they have so many applicants availble that it’s simply not worth the chance of a lawsuit if something goes wrong with your pregnancy. They simply prefer to take someone slightly less qualified. Quote:
This is what the entire FBI pre-employment polygraph program is about. And yes, it's very ignorant. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy. |
