Title: Re: What Did Your Polygrapher Tell You About Me? Post by Fair Chance on Aug 15th, 2005 at 3:25pm
Dear George,
At this time, I have not heard of anyone mentioning your name but it would not surprise me. High quality applicants are bound to read the NAS report and research polygraph articles (and ultimately links to this site) in preparation for the pre-screening polygraph exam. For decades, Agents would recommend the FBI to many people they know. These Agents did not have to take the polygraph. As more and more Agents get into the system who have had to take the polygraph, more Agents are quietly telling friends who might apply to become "informed" about the poly. This is not a direct order to go to this site as much as to investigate the process in order to become prepared. Any person with ambition has to lose what ever fear that the polygraph is an accurate means for employment pre-screening after reading only the NAS highlights. Should such applicant arrive at this site, the quandry become almost scary as they are told this site is full of misinformation and malcontents yet their polygraph procedure is identical to what information is provided at this site. The "fear" so necessary for the process to be at all useful is diminished to such degree that they will be accused of using countermeasures or outright failed. While there have been no shortage of applicants for FBI Special Agent positions, the polygraph has decimated application pools in the support area to the extent that Human Resources in the FBI is becoming frustrated with feeding "filtered" applicant results to the polygraphers only to have a high percentage dismissed. Yes, some applicants sail through the process but this is rare and one only has to read Congressional Reports to know that Congress is furious at the pace of reform in the FBI. Arlen Spector, known for his critical views of the FBI, is yet launching another opinion today stating that the FBI in his eyes is not going in the right direction yet. He is very critical of 171 million dollars spent on Trilogy with no tangible results except the excuse "it was a learning experience." He has accused the Director himself, who enjoys a fairly favorable view on Capitol Hill, as someone who does not even read what he signs his own name to. The FBI is in the middle of a political hurricane and the polygraph use is just another tornado spin-off that is not helping. That you might be choosen for a personal attack by polygaph examiners should be an indication that this site is being read by many applicants and "countermeasure detection" is not as robust as claimed. If I had absolute methods of detecting countermeasures as an operator, I would care less about anything posted on this site. I would have no fear on letting antipolygraph posters on my polygraph site. Regards. |
