Title: worried about sexual past Post by grotius on Dec 4th, 2004 at 3:12am
I am considering applying to the CIA and am worried about past sexual activities that may serve to disqualify me if discovered during the polygraph. Bascially, while living abroad a for the last few years I solicited the services of prostitutes on more than a few occassions...so I'm particulary fearful of the "Have you paid for sex?" question. Are they sure to inquire about sex with prostitutes? Or will the focus be other sexual transgressions? Is there anyway I can steer them away from the "pay for sex" question? Other than this I have nothing to hide, not even past drug use. Could use some help here.

A former CIA applicant, writing under the pseudonym "No Such Author," provided a statement to AntiPolygraph.org regarding his experience. Regarding the "lifestyle" questions he writes:
Quote:
As an applicant, you are not in a position to "steer" the interrogation, and attempting to do so is likely to be (correctly) construed as a sign of deception. Before you apply with the CIA, you should consider carefully just how intimate a relationship you are willing to have with your government. |

I guess I really have no power to steer the interview anyway...I was just wondering if they would definitely focus on this. I mean, do they ask every single question during the real exam that is listed in the pre-test phase? I guess it would just be better to be honest about it. I don't care about making such admission to the examiner, just wonder if such past activities are disqualifying. I mean, is it even worth applying going in for the poly if I end up getting a conditional offer?

Not all questions asked during the pre-test phase are asked during the in-test phase (when one is connected to the polygraph instrument and asked a question series). I do not know whether your solicitation of prostitutes would disqualify you from employment with the CIA.

Unfortunately, it seems to me like you are S**t out of luck.
Remember, you are applying for a job with the CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY. Having paid for sex insinuates that you have a great weakness when it comes to the other sex. Many spies end up spilling their guts or selling secrets in order to make a woman happy or for her affection. I think you know what your chances are already. |
