I am currently going through the appeals process for a security clearance denial with the FBI. I have now been waiting nearly THREE years just to get my hearing in front of the Department of Justice's Access Review Committee. The FBI Security Division denied me based on a claim of 'Potential for Foreign' influence; they claimed that all of my foreign experience, including my overseas work experience (for the UN), foreign family and friends, etc. was 'extensive'. It is a baseless claim which I argued against thoroughly in my initial written appeal and with my appeal to the ARC.

Through my investigation in preparing my appeal, I learned that there was indeed prejudice in my case. I even had a senior member of the FBI clearance unit admit to me that there was bias against the UN within the division. Though I had only 30 days to prepare my appeal to the ARC, the FBI has taken nearly three years to submit its side of the case, a gross violation of due process. I have approached my Congressman for assistance in this matter, and I am considering taking civil action.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with the Bureau? It would be extremely helpful to find others who have gone or are currently going through the appeal process with the ARC. Thanks.
