I dunno....I sincerely hope the polygraph thing is more about a "what if" scenario....what if the nsa hired you and then you were kidknapped by spies and they interogated you? if you took this stupid little polygraph and spilled your guts, what would you divulge to the enemy when your life is on the line? if you arent willing to give your life for your country then dont apply to the nsa. or something. who knows.

Ya know, I think the same thing about polygraphs.  The "suitability" determination for government agencies must include the victim's...I mean the applicant's behavior during the polygraph in some way.  If you freak out and damn near have a seizure, or if you start revealing too much info, then you obviously crack under pressure and aren't suitable for the job.  It sucks, I know.  Been there done that.
Check out this recent CIA applicant's polygraph story:

I hated my ploys. I failed the first exam with flying colors. The lady kept asking me if I had ever passed along any classified documents. I admitted that I was nervous and had even started researching lie detectors in my hotel room the previous night. Its like, I live at home with my mom. I'm basically a nobody. They think im a spy? ugh. Anyways, the second test was much worse. I pretty much blabbed about every personal secret I could imagine. The worse was talking about my porn habits. It is something i am extremely unproud of, and i feel terribly guilty about it. I mean my fav site was like this cheerleader site. all the models were over 18, but i feel its like it shouldnt be legal. Like its boarderline pedophile stuff. anyways, i admit to the polygraph person that i enjoy women who dress in cheerleader uniforms and schoolgirl uniforms. Of coarse the polygrapher now has to determine whether im a pedophile. I admit that in seeing countless thousands of porn pics i may have inadvertantly run across one or two pics of women that were underage. Who knows. Anyways, the polygrapher asks me if i ever purposely went out of my way to find pics of young girls or something, and i emphatically said "NO." But its like, even in having this conversation you are somehow guilty. Anyways, they were more concerned with guys who look for like real young pics of girls, like pics of girls who havent hit puberty.  Blah. That was pretty much the climax of the polygraph for me. From then on I didnt care anymore. I really felt like i got everything off my chest. I was in this state of complete honesty. The polygrapher then decided to take me through the two sets of questions again. the ones that require yes or no answers. he told me what to answer for each question. he was like "besides what we talked about earlier," have you ever lied to your family" or something. I was supposed to answer "no." But i felt that i should honestly answer yes. So I answered "yes." He got ticked off and stopped the test. I thought they were gonna throw me out of the room. He then gained his composure and took me through the test again. I could tell he was faking being nice to me, but i didnt care. I was being honest. This is what they wanted. Anyways that was about it. He walked me out and i went back to my hotel, went to my plane (was given the royal treatment at the airport cause i was shaking aftert the polygraph and the whole weeklong interview), and went home. About a week later they abruptly stopped my background investigations and told me the hrc decided to pass.  I emailed them trying to find out why, but they wouldnt say. My mom encouraged me to keep at them and finally they replied that my abilities in mathematics werent what they should be for someone with a master's degree in mathematics. I told them to then consider me for a position as a candidate with a bachelor's and they said it didnt work that way. So not only did i not get the job, but they basically stripped me of my credentials as a mathematician and they have a file on me where i admit to surfing for tons of porn of girls who dress up like cheerleaders, and ergo i am potentially some sort of pedophile. I dunno....I sincerely hope the polygraph thing is more about a "what if" scenario....what if the nsa hired you and then you were kidknapped by spies and they interogated you? if you took this stupid little polygraph and spilled your guts, what would you divulge to the enemy when your life is on the line? if you arent willing to give your life for your country then dont apply to the nsa. or something. who knows. i was watching the nsa polygraph infomercial on this site and it really got to me. the nervousness, the embarassment...i wish i never applied...
