Although she has to explain it to me every single time I bring it up, my wife who IS a scientist for a living says that without reliability (in other words the same results over and over and over again) a test has no validity.
She's right, and it's not surprising that the Defense Academy for Credibility Assessment, which in addition to training all federal polygraph operators also controls federal funding of polygraph research, studiously avoids examining the test-retest reliability of polygraphy. Care to guess why?
With regard to CVSA, which was the original poster's concern, I don't think there is any test-retest reliability research either. But anecdotally, when given access to a CVSA computer by a friend who was trained in its use, just repeatedly saying "no" into the microphone without any question having been asked produced wildly varying results: truthful sometimes, not truthful others...

Think of it this way: is a scale telling you that you weigh 110 lbs on Monday, 350 lbs on Tuesday and 60 lbs on Wednesday giving valid results? No.
Your lack of consistent results absolutely proves this website's thesis: these tests are junk science.

I had to take one and was being told I was lying about being arrested in the past.
Im former military and never even had a negative entry on my service record book. i knew for years this is what i wanted to do and was NEVER in trouble. i dont even have a speeding ticket
well now i dont get to be a LEO because this test deemed me a liar when ive never done anything wrong in my life other than minor stuff THAT I TOLD THEM ABOUT.
so now im crappity smacked and wishing i had just re-enlisted instead of dealing with this phaggotry.
i was trusted with top secret information in the military but im lying about never being arrested in my life now right? crappity smack this stupid test.
