i suspect your problem was not necessarily the inconclusive but, some background inquiry.. there are several that are on going before an investigator.. could be credit, could be driving, could be a discrepency on your application.. at any rate a failed  polygraph with the FBI should not really hurt you with state or local LE agencies.. after all who would want to work for an agency that can even make an arrest without the permission of the United States Attorney

In 2003 I was in the process with a federal agency when it came time for the polygraph.  I was nervous just as I imagine others are but I didnt want to know any history or how to beat the polygraph.  I got an inconclusive for my score.  I was told I would be schedueled for a re-test in a few weeks.  About two weeks later I received a letter in the mail saying that I was no longer a candidate and that they wished me well in my future endeavors.  Still till this day I think of that experience and what I could have done different.  After looking at the FBI drug guidelines I am way beyond anything in question with that.  My biggest fear is that the inconclusive poly will be the reason why I do dont get hired.  Is it as bad as I have been thinking about for the last several years?
