Hi Everyone,
I don't know if I'm really in the right forum or not to post this, but I figured I'd give it a shot!
Here's the deal-I recently passed an interview for a position to become an air traffic controller. I know this is a law-enforcement forum, but I have to go through a similar security check as well, so I figured I'd post and see what I could find out. I am going to be completely honest on the SF 86 form to try to get my secret security clearance, but I am a little worried about something I did once.
Anyway, my area of concern is this: in early 2004 I was asked to quit a job at a furniture store before being fired. The reason was because I was once dealing with an irate customer who was completely rude and abnoxious to myself and a fellow co-worker. She placed an order with us and left her phone number on the order sheet, and like an idiot, I took her number down. I wanted to give her a piece of my mind.
Later that night, in the wee hours of the morning, I called this customer from my cell phone and basically told her off on her answering machine, and I think might have even threatened her. I never meant any harm, only to kind of scare her, and teach her a lesson. But I let my emotions take over and I became completely out of line. I can't remember exactly what I said because unfortunately, I was very intoxicated the night I did this.
I was told within a couple of days from my boss that I had to quit or be fired because the lady saw my # on her caller ID (yes, definitely dumb I didn't even think about blocking it) and called my boss thinking it was me. Fair enough, I turned in my keys and did my best to move on.
I was never arrested or anything like that, but the call was turned over to the police. I have never had any subsequent problems since then, in fact I have been working as a Supervisor at my current job where I am in charge of customer service for my store. This is a very embarrassing situation for me, and something I truly regret doing. However, I feel like I learned something here, and have definitely changed my behavior and my attitude towards work these days. This was definitely a one time incident I'll never repeat again.
I have never been arrested, have never used drugs. The only other thing is an infraction I have as well for drinking in public, also in 2004.
My question is, will this information automatically DQ me from my clearance? How would this situation look to an investigator? This is driving me crazy, and I would really appreciate anyone's advice, no matter how hard it may be for me to stomach....fire away! Thanks for reading Tongue
