Hi everybody, I have gone over many of your guys forums and thoughts and I learned various things like the control questions but 1 thing is very unclear the but cheek squeze and the tongue bite, Is that in order to pass a lie or when you are telling the truth because Im really confused and I would not wanna bite myself when I really got nothing serious to hide. Well thank you.

The key to passing is to show stronger reactions to the "control" questions than to the relevant questions. It doesn't matter whether you're telling the truth or lying to a particular question.

Do not attempt to learn polygraph countermeasures simply from browsing this message board. Instead, see Chapters 3 & 4 of The Lie Behind the Lie Detector, where you'll find polygraph procedure and countermeasures explained in detail.

Factorfiction-

There were no sensors on the seat. Had I run into that I was planning to just use the tongue bite with breathing techniques. Faith

I just took and passed a law enforcement pre-employment polygraph.  I was VERY nervous even though I was telling the truth. The questions on drug involvement caused me A LOT of anxiety because when I was young, my best friend was very troubled and involved in drugs. He eventually overdosed and died, something that is still very difficult for me to talk about, and it IS DEFINITLEY NOT something I had any intention of revealing and discussing with a polygrapher (not my favorite people). It happened over 15 years ago, at this point it is just a very sad chapter in my life and nobody elses business. I never did drugs (other than experimenting with pot) because I was scared to death of them--nevertheless, I know when the drug involvement question was asked, I was going to show a "reaction" because I was protecting the memory of my friend by not revealing it (they did ask pre-polygraph questions about friends who did drugs,). I did admit to smoking pot as a teenager and in college.

Anyway, I used countermeasures to produce a chart that reflected the truth. I used the breathing techniques of blocking and slower exhales as soon as I recognized a "control" question (there were only 2 controls--Did you ever tell a lie about something important? and Did you ever tell a lie to stay out of serious trouble?--I asked for clarification on those and sure enough got a vague response). I also used the butt clench and the tongue bite techniques for 8-10 seconds after the breathing countermeasures. My polygrapher said I showed "discrepencies' on the drug questions --he may have been bluffing but I doubt it because my heart was hammering during those questions. He passed me so I know my reactions to the controls must have been more pronounced. I was not accused of countermeasures. Good luck to anyone facing this ordeal--it isn't fun but the info at this site will help you through it. Read as much as you can and practice these techniques--they work!!!
