You can enhance your privacy when browsing and posting to this forum by using the free and open source Tor Browser and posting as a guest (using a fake e-mail address such as nobody@nowhere.com) or registering with a free, anonymous ProtonMail e-mail account. Registered users can exchange private messages with other registered users and receive notifications.
Questions asked in pre-employment polygraph screening are more general than the one you suggested. Instead, you might be asked a relevant question such as "Did you ever steal anything worth more than $200?" You might also be asked a question such as, "Did you ever take anything that did not belong to you?" But this second question is a probable-lie "control" question -- one that is intended to cause a reaction even in people a department would want to hire.
