I too was instructed to provide any outstanding materials required for my background check.  He shook my hand and told me be sure to get everything in for my background.  Two weeks later:  "...thank you for applying to our department.  At this time we are pursuing more qualified candidates.  You may re-apply in one year."  No explanation was given.  I knew that it had to be the poly because I had proceeded through all other phases.  After many phone calls, e-mails and help from a city councilman, I received a call from an officer who confirmed my suspicion:  deception indicated, have a good day.

Ok, first off, the polly machine was hooked to a laptop.  After a series of questions, he asked if I had anything to hide from him, I said no.  He said that he got a response for these two questions:  "have you ever been or have you ever commited physical abuse"  and " are you purposly withholding any info from the department?"  He asked me to write a statement as to why I reacted, so I did.  I stated that I have no idea why I got any reaction to these question, I was completly truthful and was not trying to be deceptive. After that he staired at his computer for awile, then he turned it toward me to show me that it said that I was being "deceptive 99.9%".  I told him that if the machine has already made up it's mind, than I guess I have failed then.  He then stated that the machine does not make the decision, that's my decision.  He then gave me a card with some things that I needed to get to the department about the background and I was on my way.  He didn't tell me rather I passed of failed.  But he did want me to give him some more info for my backgroung.  If he was going to fail me, do you think he would want any more info for my background?  What do you guys think about my experience.
