How long or short to make your breaths depends on what sort of reaction you want to create. Almost any change in one's breathing faster or slower, deeper or shallower, makes for a scorable reaction. That said, I think it would be best not to depart too sharply from one's baseline breathing pattern. For example, suppose your baseline breathing rate is 20 breaths in and out per minute. In that case, it would be an implausible departure to speed it up to 80 breaths per minute after a "control" question and then calmly return to 20...

George,
One last question

If you are going to use the breathing countermeasure where there is a series of 5 or 6 shallow breaths the return to normal baseline approx. how long will the inhale & exhale be?I was thingning about one second for each inhale and exhale?

anxietyguy,

All three of the questions you listed are probable-lie "control" questions.

Thanks nunyun for the info! Can anyone help me out with the wording of this control question:

1) Have you ever stole anything from your employer?
-This is a control question I believe

2)Are you lying to me about what you have stole from your employers?
   -Relevant? Not sure

3) Other then what we have talked about have you ever stole anything from your employer?
  -Still a control I think???

Well I have done my research for almost  a year on the polygraph anticpating one for employment. I have posted previously with some questions, and have one more before the big day.

I am trying to decide between two approaches
1) Countermeasures on all control questions
2) As described in the "Sting" Technique manipulate all control questions on first round, just one control on second, and  no countermeasures on the last round.

My test is near (don't want to give info on how near:)) and I will post my encounter on here when it is complete. I can't get a reliable answer it seems with people who have tried eithier, and have passed. I need to know what will give me the best chance because that is what this test is all about (junk science luck). I know a "failed" poly will make it hard for me to gain employment elsewhere so I need to do it right the first time.

It is for pre-empolyment LEO position, and would like to know what the thinking is behind not using countermeasures on all control questions???

Any help would be great,
Anxiety
