???Why would I lie about something like this?  I think it is totally ridiculous as well, but they will stop the whole hiring process if I don't pass this.  Does anyone know if they can prosecute old crimes you reveal?  I want this job, but not bad enough to go to jail for it.  All I want to do is help animals, and make a reasonable salary for a change.  I wanted to do this to get my foot in the door of the animal care profession-- but this is too much. Thanks for your comments.  Newbie wannabe

If you are not pulling our leg or pushing our arm about this sheriff polygraphing for animal control job

I seriously doubt that he’s joking. Plenty of municipalities, including Fairfax, VA polygraph applicants for animal control positions. There really is no end to this madness.

If you are not pulling our leg or pushing our arm about this sheriff polygraphing for animal control job, then copy my post and mail it, or hand deliver it for that matter, to your local TV news and news paper. Explain to them what a hoax polygraphy is. If they don't believe you, ask them to research this website and read the NAS report. However, it wouldn't be good for you if you passed the test and got the job. He would certainly fire you.

My hobby is exposing corruption. I would be glad to help you expose this but I am leaving for Alaska in the next few days. I sure would like to get my teeth into this one though. In my earlier days I, singlehandedly, caused a sheriff to lose office. I talked a funeral Home director into running against him (no lie). The director didn't make even one political speach and we beat this idiot.

You can privately email me from this site. Just click on my name. I will do what I can before I leave but only after you find out you didn't get the job.

Newbie,
Perhaps you should find a different polygrapher in another county that performs tests for LEA's. Then tell your local Sheriff that you want to have that polygrapher give you the test rather than his chosen one. Should be no reason for him to decline, unless something rotten is going on.

Tongue  I wish it wasn't true--alas, I will have to give a similar polygraph that the deputies and others have to take.  Same questions, drugs, sex, stealing..etc.  How would you investigate the sheriff's office?  I am thinking that if they don't give me a chance for a retest, I might go to the media about it.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!  Newbie wannabe

Polygraph for animal control job????? This would be laughable if it wasn't so stupid. What kind of questions would the polygrapher ask? "do you lean toward sex with animals?" "Have you ever traded an animal drugs for sex?" "Have you ever sold drugs to an animal?"

This sounds like corruption in the sheriff"s dept. One wonders how much rakeoff the sheriff gets, from the polygrapher, for sending him business. This sheriff should be investigated.

Hi.  I will have to take a polygraph test to become an Animal Control officer with a local sheriff's office.  I would be in a civilian position, no gun or arrest duties, but I still have to take the test  Undecided. I am very worried, especially since two people I know have told the truth on polygraphs and failed, and I have been told a quite a few people have been disqualified for this position due to failed poly's.  I didn't realize how invasive the background check  Shocked (given earlier) would be and I have a problem with one of the questions.  I have read the online book and will definitely keep the tips in mind.  I am very paranoid about being found out, so I don't want to discuss the problem question in too much detail.  I am confused about something though, if you tell them all the illegal things you have done before, can't they arrest you?  Granted most of it is in the past, so is there a statute of limitations on stuff?  I am almost convinced that I have lost the job of my dreams before it has even started!  Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
