One can only hope that a candidate such as kalle can get a second exam, pass it, and go to work for the FHP. Officers who have had to deal with the inconsistencies of polygraphs hopefully would view them with a somewhat jaundiced eye when the suggestion came up to use one in an investigation. This may actually further the demise of the polygraph, a goal we all work towards.

Kalle:

I am sorry to learn about your negative polygragh experience. I, too, have been victimized by the polygraph insitution. It's ignorant and uneducated disciples should be held accountable on a civil level. But, do not hold your breath! This institution is resilient and won't go down without a strong fight. The good news, this website is a pioneer in exposing the truth and identifying the flaws of the polygraph.

Polygraph testing is a fraud! Phd level scientist have concluded that the polygraph is no more reliable than a "flip of a coin."  Uneducated and indoctrinated members of lawenforcement have concluded such exams are accurate and an effective method of pre-employment screening?? In short, those who can think on a critical level, overwhelmingly  dispute the viability of the polygraph; those who are incapable of thinking for themselves are its' biggest advocate!

If you are truly interested in lawenforcement as a career, retake the exam. However, bear in mind (assumming you pass the second time), that you will be entering a field that not only endorses this flawed device, but also considers it as a extremely useful tool to eliminate undesirable candiates. This, perhaps, is the most difficult contention of the polygraph community to refute. After all (please read with a tone of sarcasm intented), since the introduction of polygraph screening, reports of police misconduct, abuse, and violations of civil liberties have been almost non-existent
(lol, lol, lol,!!)!

Broken,

For law enforcement applicants who become the victims of a false positive outcome, a second polygraph may or may not help. But requesting it is typically the only practical avenue of appeal available.

Will another polygraph really help?  If they are not reliable in the first place, why should a second test be requested?

kalle,

I understand well your shock. I and many others have also told the truth and been falsely accused of deception by polygraph operators. You need to know that polygraph "testing" is a fraud: it has no scientific basis whatsoever, and actually has an inherent bias against the truthful, because the more candidly one answers the so-called "control" questions, the more likely one is to fail. Download The Lie Behind the Lie Detector and read chapters 1 & 3 to learn about the chicanery, dubious assumptions, and flawed logic behind the "test."

At this point, it is important that you appeal the polygraph results in writing. Respectfully explain that you told the truth and request a second examination. It is important that you do this, because your silence will be interpreted as your acceptance of the results.
