The National Academy of Sciences has determined that "[polygraph testing's] accuracy in distinguishing actual or potential security violators from innocent test takers is insufficient to justify reliance on its use in employee security screening in federal agencies."

In view of this finding, AntiPolygraph.org is sponsoring a petition to President George W. Bush, urging him to sign an executive order to immediately stop polygraph screening in the Executive Branch:

http://www.petitiononline.com/antipoly/petition.html

I urge all who wish to see the pseudoscientific practice of polygraph screening ended to electronically sign. All that's needed is your name and e-mail address. You may choose to conceal your e-mail address from public view. Those who wish to include a comment or their mailing address (as I have done) may also do so.

Please consider letting friends, relatives, and colleagues know about the petition. When an appropriate number of electronic signatures have been gathered, the petition will be sent to the White House in both printed and electronic format.

Note: This petition is being hosted free of charge by www.PetitionOnline.com. Although I am listed as the petition's author because I posted it, the petition's wording is adapted from an as-yet-unpublished opinion article written by Dr. Drew C. Richardson.
