Bump!

Can we get an updated list going?  I'm interested in pursuing a B.Sc. in forensics but have some minor (marijuana) use in my past, so I want to get a better feel for the current situation. Any help appreciated!  Smiley

Joe, unfortunately just the reverse has happened, as the economy sinks deeper the number of applicants has multiplied and the poly has actually become much more prevalent and is used as an extra tool to eliminate candidates from the ever larger number. Even agencies that at one time were dead set against the poly now have signed on themselves. The truth is, it's a "test" that only works on the uninformed and naive. Currently, I'm on chapter 3 of TLBTLD, a great title that dispels the myths and falsehoods on which the poly depends to work. The whole point is to place one in front of a machine that one is led to believe can read minds, therefore you are most likely to be pressed into admitting to a number of disqualifying past transgressions. Do read the book and you will be more than prepared for it.

This thread hasn't been updated in almost 7 years...anyone have information relevant to 2012?  I would have to imagine since the economy imploded some LE agencies have dropped the poly due to budget cuts.

Here is the link to the Boston PD websitehttp://www.ci.boston.ma.us/police/default.asp

It appears that they do not poly. I don't know if you live there. If you don't you might as well forget about it. They have some pretty extreme requirements for employment in the dept. I have never seen that even here in good ol' CA.

Read it and be shocked

Tulsa, Oklahoma PD does not require a poly or a CVSA.

Washington DC Metro Transit Police does not poly, but uses the the even more insane CVSA.

Add Long Beach (CA) PD to the poly list. They have an interrogator on-staff, and they also use Intercept in LA and Santa Ana

Remember good people, Intercept is headed by Edward Gelb....

Okay, I have a few questions.Does anyone know of any northern california agencies that dont poly? Also what about the state park rangers and local county rangers? I know CDC, Youth Authority Dont. poly, and CHP does a voice stress test. Can someone give me more info about the Stress test? Ive heard its a joke, then ive heard some say its better than a polygraph ???. I really dont want to take a polygraph Undecided, but if I have to I will.  Im going to work in law enforcement no matter what, but I really dont want to move to another state or be a corrections officer, you know what I mean? Thats why I might just go for the california highway patrol.....that is if I can pass there stress test. Can anyone shead some light on any of this? THANK YOU********

As far as Florida is concerned I really have no idea.

I'm new to the site and just scanning and learning, but do I understand pdity to be saying that there are no concerns with corruption, etc. with NYPD (I guess Serpico, Murphy, et al. lied) and the rest of the East coast. Pleeease!!!!! I guess there has never been a problem of that sort in Miami or New Orleans either. Let's get real here.

What about SanBernardino Police department?

PAQ,

Yes SBPD does require a poly. Here is the link.

http://www.ci.san-bernardino.ca.us/police/employment_opportunities.html#Police

Don't be discourged by having to take a poly. You have been to this site and hopefully downloaded The Lie Behind The Lie Detector.  You have the insight to "pass" the polygraph because you are aware of what it really is.
Don't let the poly prevent you from getting your LE job

Good Luck

There are no departments in Wisconsin that polly, but it is pretty tough getting into a dept. in Wisconsin. They are very peculiar about who they hire.

Cleveland does not poly for sure.Though with the massive layoffs they just had don't expect them to hire for a few years. Also I don't believe Toledo or Detroit poly but don't quote me.

what happens if you took a poly for the fbi and failed, would that disqualify you from other federal employment and other law enforcement agencies.

Thanks fred for all the information.  I've now served in two differant agencies and am in the final process for the US Government LEO position.   Polys are a waste of time, resources, and again cannot differentiate between truth, lie, and character............

Former Officer,

Congratulations on your position. I am currently processing with two agencies in CA. I hope you have continued success in LE

A correction to the non-polygraphing agencies

Los Angeles Unified School District Police are using the polygraph. Although their website is misleading about it, it does show up when you click the "apply for officer link" otherwise in all the other information it doesn't.

The recruiter did not confirm this information. HMMM???

Jet Journalist, Mr. G.

Just a point of information, The LASD is on a hiring freeze until July 2003. Ever since Leroy D. Baca purchased his airplane the SO has taken plenty of heat from the Board of Supervisors.

The BOS proposed $100 million in cutbacks, but eventually settled on $60 million. Many vital units fell victim to these cuts.  Some major units were the Cargo Cats anti-theft detail, Asian crime task force, and the pre- employment unit.

I just wonder if they kept all their $70,000 dollar a year polygraphers around. Of course they could have been sent back to the jails or worse, patrolling the streets of LA County. Imagine that!!
