Basic questions to know:

Why do you want to become a police officer for this village?
(Gather some info on the respective village or city, always helps to be informative)

How has your education/training prepared you for this profession?

What would you do should you notice corrupt practices of fellow Police Officers?  (Answer I have been told best to use is I would follow the department's policy and procedures, and if the policy mandates an immediate arrest, I would not hesitate to do so)

How will you treat people in the community? (I will offer every citizen the same and professional level of police service.  I will treat the citizens as I would want my parents to be treated.)

What are your strengths?

What are your weaknesses?

What traits should a police officer possess?

Of those traits which is the most important trait to possess?  (My answer is a police officer should possess high ethical standards).  Always receive positive feedback in that answer.

Can you use deadly force should the situation arise?  (Guaranteed if you say no, you will no longer be under consideration.)

One more thing to keep in mind is if you're a drinker, beware, as drinking is very commonly associated with problems in the law enforcement field such as DUI's or bar fights while off duty.

Hope that helped, good luck!

BEAR:

I can suggest the following to you...I think you have probably heard most of this,  but maybe not...

1.  Make good eye contact,  appear intense and alert, and sit almost to the point where you are leaning (just a) bit towards the chief with your hands folded in your lap.  Don't over-do any of the above,  yet make sure you do all of the above to some extent.

2.  Speak articulately.  Don't be afraid to use big words as long as you know what they mean,  and structure you sentences intelligently.

3.  Stick to answering strictly the question at hand.  Do not ever roam off of the subject.  Keep your answers short (short meaning short for the particular question,  as some may require more lengthy answers than others),  and speak convincingly.

4.  If a question really stumps you,  take a few (not too long) moments to construct an outline of an answer in your head.
They would rather see you think for a second and spit out a well thought-out and intelligent answer rather than ramble off a dumb answer just for the sake of a quick reaction.  While police officers are supposed to posses a keen ability to react quickly,  they are also supposed to be good at making smart decisions.

5.  Dress your best.  Whenever you come in contact with anyone from the department (and even outside testers for the department),  you want to give a good impression.

I can't really give you any particular questions they may ask you,  but:

-Let them know you handle stress real well...tell them you work out on a daily basis (jog, weights, etc).

-Tell them you are planning on sticking with them for years to come.  They want someone who will stay with them.

-Let them know that you are willing to make police work your 24/7 job,  and that you understand that it is a lifestyle more than a job.

-Tell them you are the type of person that is capable of dealing with all different people on all different levels.  Tell them that you were the type of person in high school that was able to associate with the "jocks" "nerds" "band people"
"preps" etc. all at the same time.  They want unbiased persons who can deal with all types of people.

-Tell them that your worst quality is that you are overly suspicious.  Tell them that you like to see things to believe them,  and that you always seem to dig deeper than the surface.  Tell them that there have been times that your suspicion has ended up slapping you in the face, but that many times it has done you good, and that your suspicion (or hunch) was correct.  The reason you should use this excuse as your worst quality is because it is a damn qood quality to have as a cop,  yet it is an acceptable answer to use for your worst quality in regular everyday life.

-Lastly,  in all your answers,  think about what the police department wants (what a cop should be), and manipulatively include those characteristics in any answer that you can (as in my above "suspicion" response for a question about your worst quality).  But do it in a convincing and sneaky way...don't sound like your trying to "sound like a cop."  Almost come off as if you don't even realize that what your saying is a good thing.  Example: Almost sound disappointed in yourself when you tell them that your worst quality is that you are overly suspicous.     (OF COURSE, DONT MAKE YOURSELF SEEM OR SOUND PARANOID).

I would appreciate any information regarding interview questions from the chief. I am going in for an interview with the chief of police at my local PD. I understand that most questions do not have a “correct” answer but rather they are trying to see how you would respond to certain situations. Any police officers reading this post that can remember what they were asked in their final interview, if you could just provide them for me and any other person that may be in my situation, I (and we) would sincerely appreciate your time. Thanks
