Your lawyer is mistaken. The two questions you listed are irrelevant, not control questions. You may wish to refer your lawyer to The Lie Behind the Lie Detector.

Note that if this polygraph "test" is in connection with some crime you are suspected of having committed, it would behoove you to refuse to submit, whether you are innocent or guilty of the crime in question.

Irrelevants are not scored or measured.

Quick question...I have read "the lie behind the lie detector" but am still confused about using countermeasures.  I understand that I should use them during control questions, and not during relevant questions, but what should I do if I encounter an irrelevant question?

My lawyer told me that some of the control questions I will encounter are:

1. Are we currently in (name of state)?
2. Is your name George Bush?

I thought that these were irrelevant questions.  Please clarify.

Thanks guys, I have found this website very helpful.
