{"id":2962,"date":"2001-04-10T15:00:08","date_gmt":"2001-04-10T20:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/antipolygraph.org\/blog\/?p=2962"},"modified":"2021-02-18T08:02:16","modified_gmt":"2021-02-18T13:02:16","slug":"bodybuilding-championship-to-require-lie-detector-tests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/antipolygraph.org\/blog\/2001\/04\/10\/bodybuilding-championship-to-require-lie-detector-tests\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Bodybuilding Championship to Require Lie Detector Tests&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry\">\n\n\n<p>Bob Luder <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20010502121241\/http:\/\/www.kcstar.com\/item\/pages\/printer.pat,sports\/3acc953f.410,.html\">reports<\/a> for the <em>Kansas City Star<\/em> In an article entitled, &#8220;Bodybuilders to compete for &#8216;Xtreme Fit&#8217; Championship.&#8221; Excerpt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>In preparation for the fifth annual Natural Southern States Classic and &#8220;Xtreme Fit&#8221; Championship, bodybuilders throughout a five-state region that includes Missouri and Kansas have pumped plenty of iron, diligently practiced their posing in front of the mirror and lathered on the body oils.<\/p><p>To get into the competition, they also will have to slip their fingers into electronic sensors and answer a list of questions, hoping that the needles running along the paper don&#8217;t make any sudden jumps.<\/p><p>That&#8217;s right, the Natural Southern States Classic and &#8220;Xtreme Fit&#8221; Championship, which gets started at 8:30 Saturday morning at the Liberty Performing Arts Center, goes to xtremes [sic] in enforcing the natural aspect of their competition.<\/p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re proud to be a drug-free organization doing something about the unhealthy abuse of illegal growth-enhancement drugs,&#8221; said event coordinator John Arnold of ProActive Fitness, Inc.<\/p><p>To that end, every bodybuilder registered for the competition will not only be subjected to a urinalysis drug test on Friday night, but will be required to take a polygraph test Saturday morning.<\/p><p>If a subject fails either test, he or she will automatically be banned from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nanbf.org\/\">North American Natural Bodybuilding Federation<\/a> competitions for a minimum of seven years.<\/p><p>&#8220;These rules are strictly enforced,&#8221; said Arnold, an ardent bodybuilder who competes in the competition.<\/p><p>In previous years competitors have been randomly selected to undergo polygraphs during the competition.
